Curriculum and Quality of Education
At The Rowans AP Academy we offer a broad and balanced curriculum for both key stage 3 and 4 learners.
The Key stage 3 curriculum is rich and engaging with many practical elements. Maths and English lessons are a high priority with a dedicated curriculum time of four hours a week each. The curriculum is supported by a rigorous interventions programme. Interventions which support learning are both academic and therapeutic.
There is a wide range of subjects in key stage 4 which allow pupils the opportunity to make a range of choices for their post 16 destinations.
Pupils are required to choose three option subjects in year 10 whilst continuing with their PE, Maths and English lessons. Pupils equally have the opportunity to choose three different subjects in Year 11. This means that whether a pupil arrives at The Rowans in Year 10 or Year 11 they are able to leave school with a minimum of five recognised qualifications which include the core subjects English and Maths.
With options such as Children's Play Learning and Development, Media Studies, Sport, the Duke of Edinburgh Award, and Engineering, The Rowans caters for a variety of interests and passions.
Rights Respecting School Article 29: The Convention on the Rights of the Child. "Children's education should develop each child's personality, talents and abilities to the fullest."
